Blending Fibres, Mixing Colours & Creating Landscapes

Friday 19th July & Saturday 20th July 2019

10.00-16.00 at The Granary Studio, Owslebury Farm, Main Road, Owslebury, Hampshire, SO21 ILU

We all see a landscape differently, whether we see a literal interpretation or an abstract view. We might just see a part of the view that inspires us or it could be marks or colours that define our landscape. Which ever way we view the landscape around us working in wool and other fibres is an exciting way to capture that vision.

In this two day workshop we will be working with a variety of fibres, wool, silk threads, silk fabrics, cotton, soya bean, bamboo and so the list goes on. By blending these fibres together we will create depth and texture to our work using the wet feltmaking technique.

Nuno Travel Cloth

Saturday 9th November & Sunday 10th November 2019

10.00-16.00 at The Granary Studio, Owslebury Farm, Main Road, Owslebury, Hampshire, SO21 ILU

Nuno is the combination of wool fibre and fabrics fused together with the wet felting technique. The travel cloth is a very important part of my daily life. Each little piece of fabric travels with me in my pocket with a needle and a little thread. Opportunities throughout the day allow small amounts of time where I can stitch my thoughts and feelings into the cloth. Once stitched I join the fabrics together, as the cloth grows so my memories are preserved in a stitched diary.

In this workshop  we will be making up a number of Nuno felted fabrics using a variety of wool, threads and fabric. Often the colour of our chosen fabrics reflect the mood in which we are in. We will endeavour to keep the pieces small so we have a good selection to work with. We will then start stitching on to a piece of our Nuno, thus begins our journey of recording in stitch. We will all have the same starting point but who knows where our cloth will go.

Needle Case

Friday 27th March & Saturday 28th March 2020

10.00-16.00 at The Granary Studio, Owslebury Farm, Main Road, Owslebury, Hampshire, SO21 ILU

My needle case is very special to me, it contains beautiful threads, pieces of work ready to stitch, quotes that inspire, things that i have found, and photos etc. It’s my working journal and i feel totally lost without it. Join me in making your own personal Nuno felted needle case, maybe using special fabrics, photos and any other items that hold meaning to you.

On the first day of this workshop we will spend the day making pages for our needle case. We will first make the Nuno cover for the case using a number of fabrics and fibres. We will continue to develop further pages using a variety of different fabrics. On the second day we will look at decorating and personalising our needle case with print and stitch adding pockets etc,  producing a very personal needle case to treasure.

Sketchbooks "Lets Keep it Small"

Friday 17th April & Saturday 18th April 2020

10.00-16.00 at The Granary Studio, Owslebury Farm, Main Road, Owslebury, Hampshire, SO21 ILU

For me sketchbooks have always given me the scare factor! I would often say I don’t do sketchbooks because I can’t draw or I am not artistic, when in actual fact that has nothing to do with it. If you watch a child play with paint and other art materials, they don’t spend hours choosing what colour to use or where to put the mark, they explore by playing, trying anything that is to hand, their mind is free to explore.

This workshop is designed to let you play and explore, there is no right or wrong way. I will provide all the materials to play with. We will also look at tearing and layering, folding, and also discuss how this sketchbook can inspire further work. These beautiful small books will be printed, painted, collage and stitched to produce comforting works of art that will be hidden in a little bx where your personal expressions can stay personal

So if sketchbooks are not your thing then please give this workshop a go, I think you may surprise yourself, it helped me no end.
